Chromascale
Diptych | Oil on Canvas | 12 × 12 in
A study in finding beauty between chaos and serenity.
Chromascale is a diptych built from two opposing worlds: one chromatic, one grayscale. The foundation is a smooth balance of color, while the pouring medium creates a tangled, almost spidery layer across the surface. This was Vincent’s first experience with pouring, a technique he discovered after feeling that something had always been missing from the abstract methods he had previously explored. Rather than trying to control every movement, he allowed the paint to move freely and become something of its own.
The contrast became more than a visual experiment. At the time, Vincent felt surrounded by a messy, unruly atmosphere while simultaneously trying to build something beautiful and stable underneath it. The colorful foundation represents that beauty—the things worth holding onto, the balance he wanted to create—while the dark, unpredictable forms above it reflect everything that felt tangled and out of his control.
Chromascale came from wanting those two things to exist together. It is about craving peace while living through disorder, and trying to find harmony when the transitions in life feel anything but smooth. What began as an experiment with paint ultimately became a reflection of an emotional landscape: a beautiful foundation carrying the weight of everything that was happening above it.
